William (Bill) Shannon Boehme passed away peacefully Wednesday June 16, 2021 at Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the Potts Chapel. A Veteran’s Graveside Service will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas.
He was born March 11, 1930 in Dodge City, Kansas to Blanche and William Boehme. At age 19 he married the love of his life, Ramona Kay Keeler. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1950 at St. John, Kansas. Beginning in 1953 he signed up to serve with the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, commendations included, National Defense Korean Service, United Nations and Good Conduct. His most significant duty assignment was the Utron Five. He was stationed in Florida, Tennessee, California, Guam and Arizona while serving. While stationed in Phoenix, Arizona daughter Rebecca Lousie was born in 1952. After William served in the United States Navy, they moved to Valley Center, Kansas. Daughter Melinda Lee was born in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1957. Bill and family moved to Lyons, Kansas when he was stationed there with the Kansas Highway Patrol from 1959 until he was transferred to Independence, Kansas in 1967.
Bill retired as a Sergeant with the Kansas Highway Patrol Troop H in 1980. He later worked as the Montgomery County Emergency Preparedness Director, Mercy Hospital medical delivery and Messenger’s Furniture.
Bill taught Woodcarving classes at ICC in his spare time. He was recognized with many awards for his woodcarvings. His family will cherish their many carvings that he has made over the years.
He was active in the Mirza Shrine, Elk CIty Masonic Lodge, VFW and his local woodcarving club. He also enjoyed dressing up as a clown and attending parades for the Jokers Shrine unit.
He will be missed by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They will rest easy knowing that he reunited with Ramona on her birthday.
Bill is survived by, daughter Rebecca Carpenter and husband Steve of Shawnee, Kansas, Daughter, Melinda Jones and husband Mike of Coffeyville, Kansas: four grandchildren, Matthew Jones and wife Karla, Tad Carpenter and wife Jessica, Meaghan Ward and husband Jarod, Marcus Jones and wife Shannon, Nine great grandchildren, Jayden Crawford, Paxton Crawford, Claire Jones, William Jones, Lucas Jones, Jacob Jones, Elsie Jones, Fletcher Jones and Luca Carpenter. He also leaves behind a special companion, his loyal dog Fritzie 3.
He is preceded in death by his wife Ramona Kay Boehme, Mother Blanche Boehme, Father William Boehme, and Sister Ruth Slade.
He will also be missed by many wonderful employees of Windsor Place Assisted Living and Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
