Minnie Mae Sumner

Minnie (Granny) Sumner, 93, of Independence passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the First Christian Church in Independence. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 20, 2023 at Potts Chapel with the family receiving visitors from 5:00-7:00 PM.

Memorials are suggested to the Independence Garden Club and may be left at the Chapel.

Ms. Sumner was born January 12, 1930 in Bristow, Oklahoma, the daughter of Dow and May Canady.

She was joined in marriage to the love of her life, Lloyd Sumner on May 29, 1948 in Pryor, Oklahoma. The two made their home in Independence. The couple welcomed two daughters, Nina Matukewicz and Connie Kahler.

In her spare time Minnie was an avid member of the Independence Garden Club, Red Hats, and Christian Woman’s  Fellowship.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd, daughter Connie, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Those left to carry on her memory are her daughter Nina, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
