On Sunday, August 16, 2020, Hoov - Larry Joe Hoover, passed away at the age of 68.
Larry was born on April 19, 1952 in Independence, KS to Robert Hoover and Josephine (Gelso) Hoover. He graduated from Independence High School and played basketball for Independence Community college - “the clutch two-point man.” Larry graduated from Pittsburg State University and spent the next 20+ years in accounting. On July 4, 1974, he married Pattie Sue Stephens. They raised two children, Matthew and Erica.
Most remember Larry for his quick wit, big smile, stories and jokes. Larry had a passion for vehicles, usually yellow, and always with a HOOV license plate. When someone asked for help Larry was always there. Larry was an avid KU basketball fan and was seen on TV several times in his yellow Jayhawk t-shirt. Many of your lives have been impacted by a Hoover Schnauzer. Larry always said the dogs still recognized him no matter their age. Larry frequented auctions, flea markets and antique stores looking for a good deal.
He is survived by his beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Bobie, two children Matt Hoover and his wife Amanda, daughter Erica Hoover; two grandchildren, Ethan and Sadie Hoover, his fiance’ Ingrid Schelin, her children; Aubrey (Taylor) Endicott, Logan Papen, and Calisse Papen and grandchildren; Lincoln and Sterling Endicott. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his mother, Josephine and ex-wife, Pattie (Hoover) May.
He will be remembered always by the Birdie Hunt Club members and many, many friends. A special thanks to Bob, Tony, Lonnie and Carol, thank you for being ‘all in’ until the very end. This journey has been hard on all of us and we are grateful you were always there.
