Dan Parker Dollison

February 18, 1935 ~ December 14, 2021 (age 86)


Dan Parker Dollison passed away peacefully in his home on December 14th, 2021, in Independence, Kansas. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 28th at Mount Hope Cemetery at 1PM with full military rites. Services are entrusted with Potts Chapel.

Dan was born on February 18th, 1935, in Independence, Kansas to Doris Vivian (Towe) Dollison, and George Raymond Dollison. Growing up Dan occupied a full house with his siblings; Sisters, Dortha (Dot) Ann Talley, Delores Lessman, Nancy Jordan, and brother Dave Dollison. His father’s mother moved from California to raise all five kids after the death of his mother Doris. After high school Dan attended college and received his associates degree in art before making his decision to enlist in the United States Marine Corps on October 5th, 1953. Dan served for 21 years and spent 20 months in Vietnam during this time. He was ranked Master Sergeant before he discharged on October 19th of 1994. He met his wife Roberta Dollison (Dumas) later in life and married on December 27th, 2008.

Dan wore a lot of hats in his life starting at a young age with remaining a lifelong community member of Independence, being a bat boy for the Independence Yankees, holding a spot in the Independence Community College Board of Trustees, Starting the Independence Marine Corps League in 1985 and spent 46 years running, occupying the role of State Chief Inspector, following his dream of being the Quarter Master of VFW Post 1186, and being a lover of golf. He and his wife Roberta enjoyed traveling across the United States. One of their favorite spots were museums and the National Cemetery in Washington D.C. They also enjoyed visiting California to see Roberta’s children.

One of the most important things to Dan was serving his country, therefore he opened 10 VFW locations throughout Kansas and made sure to visit monthly to oversee all operations.

Dan is preceded in his death by his parents, Doris and George, stepmother Maude Dollison (Mundy), son Tommy L. Dollison, brother Dale Dollison, infant brother George, and daughter Debera Montana.

His memory will carry on with his wife Roberta Dollison, Daughters Dawn Renee Burns, Stepsons Daniel James MacGregor, and Jon Robert MacGregor. As well as grandchildren: Morgan Decker, Jenifer Navarro, Shawn Burns, Tommy Dollison II, Danny Dollison, Shannon Burns, and Courtney Burns. Great grandchildren, and sisters Dot Talley, Delores Lessman, and Nancy Jordan.  

Donations can be made to VFW Post 1186 and the Marine Corps League; donations can be sent to Potts Chapel in Independence.
