Born October 2, 1933 to William A. Patterson and Benita Bates in Niotaze, Kansas. Passed away, September 15, 2013, at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Caney United Methodist Church in Caney, Kansas. Bill graduated from Caney High School and Kansas State University with a degree in agricultural engineering. During his college education, he took voluntary induction into the U.S. Army and became a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Bill worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service now named the Natural Resources Conservation Service for 25 years in Burlington, Dodge City and Salina, Kansasending his career as their Nebraska Assistant State Soil Conservationist in Lincoln, Nebraska. In Salina and Lincoln, Bill was active in the 4H Club with his children. After retiring, Bill and his wife, Peg, built a home on their farm located in Southeast Kansas in the area he grew up and embarked on his second career as a farmerrealizing a lifelong dream to return to the area and live where he could enjoy the land and all that lived on it. He was a good steward of that land and loved to share it with many, organizing hay rides, fishing and hunting with family and friends, and the much loved ATV farm tours with his grandchildren. His knowledge and love of the wildlife and plants was something he enjoyed passing on to his children, his grandchildren, and anyone who joined him on his walks in the woods of his farm. Bill was a generous man who loved giving back to his community during his retirement. He served as President of the Caney School Board, served on the Sedan Watershed Board, and also served on several committees at the Caney Methodist Church. He married Margaret Peg Alice Howard in 1958. After Pegs death in early 1994, he was blessed to find love again and married Roma Randall on December 21, 1994. He is preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Benita Patterson his wife, Margaret Peg Alice Howard his son, Michael Patrick Patterson and his brother, Benjamin Patrick Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Roma his sisters Margaret Bendimez of Mexicali, Mexico and Marian Lingle Chuck of Albany, Georgia his daughters, Margaret Meg Rogers Jim of Doha, Qatar and Susan Patterson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his stepson, Edgar Eddie D. Randall of Havana, Kansas 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Caney United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the care of Potts Chapel of Caney, Kansas.
