William Dale Henson (Bill) passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Labette Health Clinic in Independence, KS. Bill was born in St. Louis, Mo. to Dorothy Jones and William H Henson on May 6, 1940. After settling in Ft. Scott, near a sister, he obtained his GED, and enrolled in refrigeration school at Pittsburg. Upon graduation, he took employment with the Independence Sears store as their appliance repair man and held this position for twenty years. During those years he earned a black belt in Karate and took every class he could at the local Junior College. He then left Sears and opened his own appliance repair so he could pursue further education at Pittsburg State University. In the next five years, he earned a Masters in Psychology. Twenty-five years ago, he assumed a position with Class LTD and was a life coach for one of their clients until his death.
December 26, 1965, he married Carol Horning Henson at Ft. Scott, KS. Two children survive: Wilma Henson Davis of Independence, and Kerry Dale Henson (wife Stacy) of Chanute, KS., brother William H Henson Jr. (wife Judy) of Cleveland, Ohio, sisters, Gloria Leach (husband Bill) Texas; Judy Bridgeford Hall, Arizona; Norah Bridgeford Brock (husband Bret), Rockford, IL; Mike (Wife Chris) of Osage City, KS; Rose Henson and Sharon Henson Loyd of St. Louis, MO; and Lona Izdepski, Arizona. He also enjoyed the company of his seven grandchildren, Ellie, Asa, and Libby Davis and Parker, Josey, and Presley Henson and Derek Delatorre. His parents, one sister, and two brothers preceded him in death.
Bill was best known as an avid reader, seeker of knowledge, and challenging Scrabble player, He was dearly loved by his family and friends.
Bill attended the Community of Christ Church where he had shared sermons and taught. He was also actively involved in Home Sweet Home Ministries, Inc. of Independence. He has served on the board of directors for several years. He helped with maintenance at the men's shelter and Hope House, a family crisis home.
