Wilbur "Dean" Reed, 68, Independence passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Wilson Medical Center, Neodesha, Kansas.
A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 9:00 a. m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Potts Chapel, Independence with the Reverend Darren Melton of the First Nazarene Church officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel.
Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m., Monday, December 26, 2016 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. at the Potts Chapel.
The family has suggested memorials to the Healing Waters and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
Dean was born November 26, 1948 in Iola, Kansas the son of Wilbur S. and Violet (Dwinell) Reed.
Dean grew up in Independence and graduated from the Independence School System. He then attended Independence Community College and received his Associate Degree in Science in Engineering Technology / Drafting, he then attended Coffeyville Community College and received a Degree in Engineering Technology / Electrical.
Dean served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Jason attaining the rank of E6.
On November 28, 1986, in Coffeyville, Dean was united in marriage to Alice Smith and the couple made their home in Independence. Alice survives at the home.
Dean worked as a Master Machinist for SEKTAM of Independence.
He was a 35-year member of the VFW, Southern Baptist Church, MAKO Fly Fishers, Life member of IFFF, Green Country Fly Fishers and the North East Fly Fishers.
Survivors include his wife Alice Reed of the home, five daughters; Linda Moody and husband Matthew, Hope Adams, Faith Landsaw, Charity Blackburn all of Independence and Lisa Yoakum and husband Ken of Arma, Kansas. As well as eighteen grandchildren.
