Wilbert Bud Schlehuber, age 91 of Caldwell, Texas died Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Burleson St. Joseph Health Center in Caldwell, Texas. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Wilbert Bud Schlehuber was born December 2, 1919 in Cherryvale, Kansas and was a retired oil field production foreman. During WWII, he served with the US Air Corps and was assigned to the 376th Bomber Group as a gunner. He arrived in the EAME Theater on March 19, 1944 and flew 142 combat flight hours on 31 missions and 21 sorties over France, Italy, Czechoslovacia, Romantia, Austria, Germany and Yugoslavia until his plane was shot down over Albania on June 24, 1944. He was captured and turned over to the Germans and was a POW for 10 months until liberated by British Forces on May 2, 1945. He was a life member of the VFW Post 4458, Disabled American Veterans Association, Former POW association and B.P.O.E. and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Virginia Schlehuber. Survivors include one son Benny and wife Bonnie Schlehuber of Leveland a daughter Denise and husband Phillip DuBois of Caldwell five grandchildren, Steven and Mary DuBois of Caldwell, Robin and Gary Fiscella of Vail, AZ, William and Angela DuBois of Killeen and Robert and Carrie Schlehuber of Denver City and David and Balinda Schlehuber of Levelland and eight great grandchildren, Ross DuBois, Rusty Brown, Nick Fiscella, Samantha DuBois, Cody DuBois, Paige Schlehuber, Abby Schlehuber and Damon Schlehuber.
