Wendell Ubben

Wendell Ubben, 72, of Independence, Kansas passed away in his home on Tuesday, October 10 2017. Cremation has taken place with Potts Chapel of Independence, KS. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday October 21 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3167 S. 10th, Independence. KS. Wendell was born May 18, 1945 to Mahlon and Caroline Ubben of Beattie, KS. He graduated from Beattie HS in 1963. He continued his education at Johnson County Community College. Wendell served in the Missouri Army National Guard 135th US Hospital, Kansas City MO from 1965-1971. After working for a short time for the Santa Fe Railroad, he was employed at Shafer, Kline and Warren Civil Engineering. He left there to join his friend, Harold Phelps as a principal at Phelps Engineering, Inc., from November 18, 1994 until his retirement December 26, 2008. Wendell was a dedicated hard worker, and loved working in the civil engineering field. Work was his hobby and he continued to be involved in residential building in Overland Park area until his death. He also loved cars and has owned a few. Wendell and Connie loved to travel and were able to spend their 40th anniversary with his cousin, Jerry and wife Carole in Hawaii. He also loved spending time with family and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Connie of 41 years; son Frank Davis with grandchildren, Luke and Isabelle Davis; his daughter Bobbi Timmons and husband John; grandchildren Chase and Danni Timmons, and daughter Valerie Smith with grandchildren, Hayden, Heston and Holton Smith. He is survived by a sister, Iola Albright in Wichita, KS, Gary Ubben and wife Karen, Wichita, KS and Keith Ubben and wife Amy, Lenexa, KS. He is preceded in death by brothers, Arlyn Ubben, Ivan Ubben and David Ubben. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Wendell's honor to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 2404 W. 8th, Coffeyville, KS 67337 or to Compassionate Ministries International, 3167 S. 10th, Independence, KS 67301.
