Wayne H. Rogers, 89, of New Florence, MO, formerly of Independence, KS, died on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Wayne was born May 11, 1931 in Columbus, KS, to Luther W. Rogers and Sadie R. Miller Rogers. Due to his mother’s death a week before he was a year old he spent five years in the Fire Baptized Holiness Orphanage in Independence, KS. Upon return home his grandpa helped raise him and his siblings as his dad was a pipefitter away working to provide for his family. Wayne moved to Chicago to be with his dad just before he would have graduated. He found the Lord while there and was sanctified that same year in Ochelata Oklahoma Camp and began his lifelong ministry. After his marriage to Donna Davolt on January 16, 1952 in Oswego, Kansas, they began their 69 years of marriage evangelizing and pastoring churches in Arizona, California, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Washington. During their missionary time in Grenada, West Indies, Wayne helped find the land for the St. John’s Christian Secondary School. He also enjoyed serving the Lord in jail services, playing the trombone, sharing his garden produce and visiting with anyone that would listen as he never met a stranger.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Donna Davolt Rogers of New Florence, MO; three daughters: Beverly Cunningham and husband, Thomas, of Independence, KS; Diane Baber of New Florence, MO; and Judith Joanne Knight of New Florence, MO; seven grandchildren: Valerie Filsinger, Arthur Baber, Dacia Schwab, Colin Knight, Janae Farless, Amaris Cunningham and Andrew Cunningham; seventeen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
