Wanda June Schlegel, 80, of Independence passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Montgomery Place, Independence, Kansas.
A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday October 17, 2013 at the Potts Chapel In Independence, Kansas with Marty McCord officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel Independence.
Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday October 16, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m., to 7:30 p.m. at the Potts Chapel Independence.
Wanda was born August 8, 1933 in La Crosse, Kansas the daughter of Edna Owens Adams. She grew up in La Crosse, Kansas and attended the La Crosse School System.
On January 27, 1951 in La Crosse, Kansas Wanda was united in marriage to Manuel C. Schlegel in 1953 they moved to Great Bend, Kansas and made their home there until 1962 when they moved to Independence, Manuel preceded her in death in October of 2010.
Wanda was a loving mother of six children and was mainly a homemaker but work for a while at the A W in Independence and Taco Tico.
Her six children are, one son Rodney Schlegel and wife Darlene of Neodesha, Ks. four daughters Linda Hadley and husband Steve of Harrisonville, Mo., Nancy Thompson and Husband Vincent of Independence, Ks. Norma Hamel and Husband Mike of Kingwood, Tx., and Carolyn Bean of Independence, Ks., and Loretta LaForte, eighteen grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren.
