Wanda Mae Russell age 82 of Neodesha, Kansas formerly of Independence, Kansas died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Neodesha, Kansas. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Mount Hope Cemetery with the Reverend Willie Jones of the Grace United Methodist Church officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 6, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Hospice Care of Kansas and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Wanda Mae Russell was born May 14, 1927 in Chanute, Kansas to Roy and Mabel L. Sizemore Maynard. Wanda lived in Chanute, Kansas before moving to Rochester, Minnesota where she attended School. On September 4, 1947 Wanda married Franklin O. Russell in Iola, Kansas. The couple made their home in Chanute, Kansas before moving to Independence, Kansas in 1976. Wanda worked as a silk finisher for Deluxe Cleaners in Chanute, Kansas and for Emerson and The Elks. She was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion. Survivors include her husband Franklin of the Neodesha, Kansas one daughter Katherine Kathy Moon of Neodesha, Kansas one son James Russell of Overland Park, Kansas four grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister Norma J. Carlson.
