Wanda Mae Catron, age 81, of Cherryvale, Kansas, joined His Heavenly Kingdom on Monday, October 14, 2013, after an extended illness.
Celebration of Life Services for Wanda will be held at 10 am on Monday, October 21, 2013, at the Church of The Epiphany, Episcopal in Independence. The Rev. Gerald Eytcheson will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 1pm 7pm and the family will receive friends from 6pm 7pm at Potts Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Church of the Epiphany and may be left with Potts Chapel.
Wanda was born on February 6, 1932, to John Riley and Evelyn Rebecca Eades Eytcheson in Independence, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in Independence, graduating from Independence High School in 1951. On June 21, 1952, she married Richard Catron, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They lived in Independence for a short period before moving to Brush, Colorado in 1953. While residing in Brush, Wanda worked at EbenEzer Nursing Home and then worked for the Colorado State Health Department for over 22 years.
Wanda enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time at the family mountain cabin in Estes Park, Colorado, but her true love was for her family. She retired in 1990, and returned to the farm life in rural Cherryvale, Kansas. In 1993, she and Richard designed and built their dream home east of Sycamore.
Wanda is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard, three sons: Rick and wife Rochelle Catron of Casper, WY., Randy Catron of Santee, CA., and Ron and wife Kathy Catron of Littleton, CO. Wanda enjoyed spending time with and watching her four grandsons Garrett, Kendrick, Jared and Cody Catron grow to be fine young men.
Wanda is survived by sisters Barbara Harvey and her husband Darrell of Augusta, Kansas, Caroline Powers and her husband Ken, of Kincaid, Kansas and brother, Marvin Eytcheson of Augusta, Kansas. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Riley and Evelyn Eytcheson and her sisterinlaw, Patsy Eytcheson.
