Virginia Edna Hawk, age 91, of Independence, Kansas died Monday, May 31, 2010 at the Windsor Place in Independence, Kansas. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the First United Methodist Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Virginia Edna Hawk was born January 17, 1919 in LaFontaine, Kansas to Donald and Noreen Hendrickson Certain. She grew up in LaFontaine, Kansas and graduated from the LaFontaine High School. On July 26, 1937 Virginia married Homer Carl Hawk in Independence, Kansas where they made their home. Homer preceded her in death in October of 1982. Virginia was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include one brother Bob Certain of Prescott Valley, Arizona four sons Richard Hawk of Independence, Kansas, Mike Hawk of Independence, Kansas, Charles Hawk of Longton, Kansas and Carl Hawk of Elk City, Kansas five daughters Rhonda Selman of Independence, Kansas, Vickie Ray of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Donna Bright of Independence, Kansas, Lola Ohmes of El Dorado, Kansas, and Beverly Davis of Stratford, Texas 22 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 36 great great grandchildren.
