Virginia Elaine Ginger Winkel Elliott, age 66 of Surprise, Arizona died Friday, October 9, 2009 at her home in Surprise, Arizona. Visitation is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Friday October 16 and 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., Saturday October 17, 2009 at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. , Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel. The family has requested memorials be donated to the Mountain Side Baptist Church of Surprise, Arizona or Cherryvale Alumni Community and Educational Foundation. Contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Virginia was born April 11, 1943 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Richard Earl and Doris Josephine Holt Winkel. She grew up in Cherryvale and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1961. On April 14, 1962 Virginia married Charles Mickey Elliott in Cherryvale, Kansas. Virginia was a homemaker and played a vital role in the pastoral ministry of her husband. Survivors include her husband Charles Elliott of Surprise, Arizona; one son Michael Elliott of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter Susan Hughes of Glendale, Arizona; two brothers Bill Winkel of Zilla, Washington and Don Winkel of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters Shirley Selby of Independence, Kansas and Carol Unruh of Amarillo, Texas; three grandchildren Nathan, Lindsay, and Megan. She was preceded in death by her parents.
