Violet Katherine Poeling, age 98, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, at Medicalodges in Independence, Kansas. Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 3rd, 2021, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas at 2:00pm. Visitation will be Thursday, 4:00-6:00pm at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Adventure Club, First Baptist Church and contributions can be left with Potts Chapel.
Violet was born on March 27th, 1923, in Collinsville, Oklahoma to Charles Edward and Irva Caroline (Henderson) Curran. On September 8th, 1945, Violet married Bill Poeling in Eureka, California, homesteaded near Monticello, Utah for 7 years where 2 children were born. They moved to Olathe, Colorado where they farmed and owned a dairy. In 1972 they moved to Elk City, Kansas where they raised beef cattle. They retired and moved to Independence, Kansas in 2000. Her husband passed away in 2003. She then moved to Penn Terrace in 2008. She entered the Medicalodges in June of 2021.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She loved teaching and wrote many stories.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, nine brothers and sisters and one granddaughter.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Thomas (Malvina) Poeling, daughter Jacque (Rick) Tosh, four grandchildren: Tom (Jamie) Poeling of Golden, CO., Doug (Kim) Taylor of Eckert, CO., Aaron (Brandon) Lindsey of Delta, CO., and Jason (Amanda) Taylor of Independence, KS., eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
