Violet L. Gribben, age 85, of Caney, Kansas passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney, Kansas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2013 at Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas with Chaplain Mike Graham of the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the Havana Cemetery in Havana, Kansas under the direction of Potts Chapel of Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas with family receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.pottsfuneralhome.com. The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these remembrances may be left in care of Potts Chapel in Caney. Violet was born September 26, 1927 in rural Havana, Kansas, the daughter of Tora and Sylvia Marie Phillips Blakemore. She grew up in the rural Havana area and attended the Wayside School. On October 2, 1947, Violet married Glen Ryan. He preceded her in death. She later married Ted Gribben and the couple made their home in Caney, Kansas. Ted also preceded her in death. Violet was a homemaker who enjoyed her family. Violet is survived by one son, Robert T. Gribben of Coffeyville, Kansas two brothers, Ray and Viro Blakemore of Sedan, Kansas and four sisters, June Ranes of Caney, Kansas, Viola Jackson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Ellen Ross of Wagoner, Oklahoma and Nadine Pennell of Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tora and Sylvia Blakemore and her two husbands, Glen Ryan and Ted Gribben.
