Verna Thompson

Verna I. Thompson, age 95, of Havana, Kansas died Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Center in Sedan, Kansas. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the Havana Cemetery with the Reverend Dan Carr officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel. Verna was born December 31, 1912 in Niotaze, Kansas to Charles N. and Ida Mae Fielding Barnhart. She grew up in Niotaze, Kansas and attended schools there. On November 5, 1931 Verna married Jim Thompson in Sedan, Kansas. The couple made their home in Havana, Kansas. Jim preceded her in death on February 22, 2001. Verna was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church in Havana, Kansas and the United Methodist Women. Survivors include one son Melvin K. Thompson, Havana, Kansas; one daughter Sue Willits of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; one sister Barbara Scott of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
