Verna Lee

Verna Marie Lee, age 90, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas with the Reverends Les Goins and Tommy Wade officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 16, 2008 with the family receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Alzheimers Association and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel. Verna was born September 12, 1918 in Avoca, Arkansas to John C. and Ruth Ann Reed Scalf. She grew up in Arkansas and attended schools there. On March 9, 1940 Verna married Lewis Lee in Rogers, Arkansas. The couple made their home in the Independence, Kansas area and later in Cherryvale, Kansas. Lewis preceded her in death on January 28, 1988. Verna was a homemaker and a member of the Bible Holiness Church in Cherryvale, Kansas. Survivors include one son Lloyd Lee of Branson, Missouri; three daughters Barbara Wheatley of Cherryvale, Kansas, Cynthia Davidson of Coffeyville, Kansas and Brenda Henry of Independence, Kansas; two brothers Bogue Scalf of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Leroy Scalf of Vinita, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her husband, and one son Bob.
