VERNA ARLENE BELT

Verna Arlene Belt, age 86 of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at her home in Independence, Kansas.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Mount Hope Cemetery with the Pastor David Henneke of the First Baptist Church officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2016 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel.

The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Verna was born August 31, 1930 in Longton, Kansas to Floyd and Hilda Josephine (Johnson) Arnold. She grew up in Longton, Kansas and graduated from the Longton High School.

On July 13, 1950 Verna married Donald L. Belt in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple made their home in Independence, Kansas two sons born to this union Bobbie and David Belt. Verna worked at Gibson's for 9 years, Electra for 9 years before retiring from ACC after 13 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas.

Survivors include one son Bobbie and wife Debbie Belt and daughter-in-law Lillian Belt of Independence, Kansas; Two Grandchildren Crystal Follmer and Alicia Wheeler, and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald on August 18, 1988; parents, one son Daivd Belt and one sister Wanita Foote.
