Vergal W. Silbaugh, 85, of Independence passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Medicalodge Independence.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Potts Chapel, Independence.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday September 14, 2016 at the First Christian Church, Independence with Pastor Harold Groth officiating.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p. m. until service time at the First Christian Church.
Vergal was born April 26, 1931 in Beloit, Wisconsin the son of Warren F. and Vera M. (Roe) Silbaugh. He grew up in Illinois and attended and graduated from the Bowien School System. He later attended the Cowley County Community College from which he received his Associates Degree.
On August 25, 1990 Vergal was united in marriage to Charlotte Corle and the couple made their home in Independence. Charlotte survives at the home.
Vergal worked as a route driver and manager for the Rainbow Bread Company and retired after working twenty years. He then worked for the Emerson Electric Company for ten years as well as Wal-Mart for ten years.
He was a Life Member of the VFW and a Life Member of the America Legion and held several offices in the American Legion. He also was a member of the First Christian Church in Independence.
Vergal served his country in the United States Army from nineteen fifty two until nineteen fifty four upon honorable discharge he was a sergeant
Survivors include his wife Charlotte of the home three sons Kent and wife Amy Spellman and Tim and Wife Lacigale Spellman and Mark and wife Diana Spellman all of Independence. One sister Levone and husband John Goodwin of Carlsbed NM. Eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Vergal was preceded in death by one daughter Candace Major and his parents.
