Vera Henry

Vera N. Henry, age 80, of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at her sons home in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2013 at Potts Chapel, Independence, Kansas with the Reverends Sammy Lorton and Tommy Wade officiating. Burial will follow in the Springhill Cemetery, rural Independence, Kansas under the direction of Potts Chapel of Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013, with the family receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Vera was born September 12, 1932 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Ira Knight and Leota Clay. Vera graduated from the Coffeyville school system. Vera married Lewis Henry on October 31, 1952 in Piggott, Arkansas. They made their home in Independence, Kansas after moving from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Lewis preceded her in death. Vera was a homemaker and she and her husband ran the Door of Hope Childrens Home of Independence, Kansas from 1968 to 1971, and then became foster parents from 1971 to 1975. Vera is survived by her son Bob Henry and wife Brenda, of Independence, Kansas five brothers, Bill Knight of Elk City, Kansas, Carl Knight of Missouri, Gene Knight of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Harold Knight of Oswego, Kansas and Keith Knight of Tulsa, Oklahoma four sisters, Rena Knight of Glenpool,Oklahoma, Ruth Knight of Glenpool,Oklahoma, Wilma Miller of Wichita, Kansas and Bonnie Cox of Glenpool, Oklahoma one granddaughter, Heidi Henry of Independence, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
