Vashti June Kelly Culver, age 90, a beloved life long resident of Caney, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Vashti was born in El Dorado, Kansas on June 25, 1918 to James and Nora Kelly. They moved back to Caney when Vashti was 5 years old. She graduated Caney High School and Bartlesville Business College. She also attended Coffeyville College. She married Virgil Culver on November 7, 1936. They were proud parents to five children; Barney Culver, Judy Culver, Tom Culver, Suzanne Boggs, and Jim Culver. Vashti, Virgil and family traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada during their early years because of Virgils work. Vashti worked in the dental office of Dr. Chester Marsh for over 20 years. She was a life long member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and its Altar Society. She is survived by her five children, ten grandchildren, Kathy Swift, Sherri Sisk, Sami Stull, Tommy Culver, Jeff Culver, Stephen Culver, Ashley Smith, Jamie Laws and Casey Culver, she is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and many nieced and nephews, including Connie Buster of Caney. She was pre-deceased by her husband, her parents, three brothers, and one granddaughter Kelly Kay Culver. Cremation has taken place. Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Sunnyside Cemetery with the Reverend Sixtys Myint of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Sacred Heart Altar Society or the Guest Home Estates, and may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas.
