Ursula "Sue" Encinia

April 14, 1942 — September 22, 2022

Independence

Ursula “Sue” Marie Encinia passed away peacefully on September 22, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Sue was a warm and joyful person who would do anything for family and friends. She positively impacted many lives and will be greatly missed.

Born to James and Minnie Hugo on April 14, 1942, in Liberty, KS, Sue was a farmer’s daughter, with a mischievous smile and a knack for finding the fun in things.

Sue was not one to mince words, and anyone would know right away how she felt about them. This would be one of the many traits that attracted her eventual husband, Raul “Shorty” Encinia, who won her over after he fell in love at first sight. They married after only two weeks and would stay in love and married from September 13, 1974, to the time of her passing.

Sue and Shorty had two daughters who were the center of their world, Tammy Stroble (Encinia) and Tiffany Encinia. From birth, Tiffany needed a high level of special care, and the family began a journey of life-long learning and care for a special needs family member. Sue and her family would grow to become advocates for the special needs community (remember, Sue did not mince words – you would learn to speak respectfully, or you’d be getting an earful), co-create a respite care support system for families, and spent endless hours volunteering and giving back to the community including several years for the Auxiliary at Mercy Hospital.

Sue loved Jesus, and was an active member of Crystalbrook Church, from Liberty to Independence. She participated in many church groups and functions, again, often donating her time and resources to those she loved in her church family.

Sue was preceded in death by her father James “Ott” Hugo, her mother Minnie Hugo, her brothers Kenneth Dean Hugo and James Leroy Hugo, and her great-grandson Matteo De Musis. She is survived by her husband Raul Encinia, daughters Tammy Stroble (Jeff Evans) and Tiffany Encinia, brother Ronald Hugo, grandchildren Autumn (Anthony) De Musis, Amber (Joseph) Drake, Angel (Ethan) Speicher, Alena Stroble (Caleb Murray), and Noah Stroble (Marissa Florio), great-grandchildren Freyja De Musis, Raffaele De Musis, Lorelai Drake, Melaina Drake, Arabella Drake, Joel Drake, Abbott Speicher, and Merlin Murray, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at Crystalbrook Church on October 20, 2022, at 10am, Graveside Service to follow. Memorial contributions can be made to Crystalbrook Church. TO leave the family a special message of condolence, please visit, www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
