Troy Smith

Troy Paul Smith, 48, of Independence, Kansas died Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Independence, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3167 South 10th Street, Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Darren Melton Officiating. Family will be receiving friends Monday December 30, 2013, at the First Church of the Nazarene from 11:00 a.m. till 12:30 p.m.

The family has suggested memorials to Troys granddaughter Addison Bolin Scholarship fund and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

Troy was born August 16, 1965 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Thomas and Joan Heckathorn Smith.

He grew up in Topeka attending and graduating from the Seaman High School. He also graduated from Highland Community College. He then attended Washburn University and received Bachelors Degree. On June 28, 1987 in Las Vegas Nevada Troy was united in marriage to Nyla Sramek and the couple made their home in Independence, Kansas. Nyla survives at the home. Troy work for the Independence Middle School and was a seventh grader teacher and was a wrestling coach as well as a basketball and a baseball coach. Troy loved sports and really enjoyed baseball.

Survivors include Nyla his wife of the home one son Thomas Smith and a daughter Alice Smith both of Independence, Ks., one brother Todd Smith of Topeka, Ks., two sisters Tiffany Smith and Tammy Broadbent both of Topeka, Ks. One granddaughter of Independence, Ks.,
