Tina Schicke

Tina Renee Schicke, age 50, of Independence, Kansas died Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with Father Andrew Heiman officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2016 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Potts Chapel the family will receive friends following the Rosary.

The family has suggested memorials to the CJ and Cody Schicke Educational Fund through First Oak Bank and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Tina Renee Schicke was born November 24, 1965 in Newton, Kansas to John Frank and Alberta Rae (Gantt) Layton. She grew up in Garden City and Independence, Kansas. Tina graduated from the Independence High School in 1984 and Pittsburg State University in 1988 with her elementary education degree.

On August 12, 1995 Tina married Chris Schicke in Independence, Kansas where the couple made their home.

In 1989 Tina started working for USD 446 in Independence, Kansas as a first grade teacher before she moved up to teach 3rd grade. Along with teaching Tina helped her husband Chris with Schicke Auctions. She was passionate about her boys. Tina enjoyed watching CJ rope, going to Cody's sporting events and kept her home open to all of their friends. Tina was member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church and the NEA.

Survivors include her husband Chris Schicke of the home; two sons C.J. Schicke and Cody Schicke both of the home; parents John and Alberta Layton of Independence, Kansas; one brother Todd Layton and wife Laura of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister Natalie Miller and husband Todd of Topeka, Kansas; mother-in-law Ann Schicke of Independence, Kansas; one nephew Jack Layton of Atlanta, Georgia and one niece Abby Miller of Topeka, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law John Schicke.
