Thomas "Tom" W. Waltmire, 80, of Independence, Kansas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
Thomas was born on September 3, 1938 in Fort Scott, Kansas. He was the son of Warren and Helen (Purkey) Waltmire. He grew up and attended school in Parsons, Kansas. During his lifetime he has lived in Parsons, Weir, Cherryvale and Independence, Kansas. Thomas was a collator operator in the printing community for several businesses in the region. On April 10, 1959 Tom married Bertha K. Cutshall in Parsons, Kansas.
He enjoyed many things in life, including crossword puzzles, baking cookies, playing cards and the piano. Most of all he was a devoted family man. Tom was also a humorous man with a big smile.
Thomas is preceded in death by his brother Paul (Earlene) Waltmire and a granddaughter Brady Lynn Fought.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Bertha "Kay" (Cutshall) Waltmire, son Joseph Waltmire, daughters: Julie (Waltmire-Fought) and husband James Groebner and Lisa and husband David Schwenker, brother Kent and wife Mona Waltmire, sisters: Shirley and husband Don Willis and Susan (Waltmire) Formenti, grandchildren: Michael and wife Justine (Ample) Fought, Jesse and wife Brandi (Wright) Fought, Teresa (Tessa Fought) and husband Ed McCoy, Aaron Schwenker, Amanda (Mandi) Schwenker, great- grandchildren: Seth Melia, Micaela Fought, J.T. Fought, Thomas Fought, Maxwell McCoy, Troy Fought, Malcolm McCoy and Marcus McCoy.
Per his request, cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association and can be mailed to Potts Chapel, 122 South Penn Ave., Independence, KS 67301.
