Steven Wayne Smith, age 49, of Sycamore, Kansas died Monday, June 30, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Kansas with the Dr. Terry Tolleson officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 6, 2014 with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorials to the Steve Smith Childrens College Fund and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

Steven Wayne Smith was born May 1, 1965 in Independence, Kansas to Kenny and Shirley Cooper Smith. He grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from Independence High School in 1983.

On April 20, 1985 Steve married Michelle Hilyard in Independence, Kansas where the couple made their home. Steve worked as a manager of Sonic, Produce Manager of Greaves NuWay, B C Jobbers in Caney, Kansas, the Joe Smith Company and as a Paint Inspector at Cessna since 1997. The couple moved to Sycamore, Kansas in 1997. Steve was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Elk City, Kansas and was on the Sycamore Rural Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and garage sales.

Survivors include his wife Michelle of the home one son Shelby Smith of Sycamore, Kansas one daughter Miranda and husband Ian McKellar of Salina, Kansas parents Kenny and Shirley Smith of Independence, Kansas one brother Jay and wife Cindy Smith of Havana, Kansas one sister Sharlene and husband Gene Lewis of Winfield, Kansas. He was preceded in death by one son Shane Smith and step brother Kyle Smith.
