Standlee Palmore Hendrix, age 86, of Neodesha, Kansas died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at his home in Neodesha, Kansas. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Neodesha Cemetery with the Pastor Jim Bell officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Neodesha, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel 818 W. Main, in Neodesha, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Neodesha, Kansas. Standlee Hendrix was born outside Nevada, Missouri on December 28, 1925 to William and Bessie Koeler Hendrix. Stan grew up in Nevada, Missouri. He worked with his dad at a gas station in Nevada, Missouri before entering the United States Army in 1943 where he served in Europe before his honorable discharge in 1946. When Stan returned home he met and fell in love with Fleta O. Klumpp. The couple were married May 17, 1947 in Nevada, Missouri. Fleta preceded Stan in death on January 18, 2007 after 60 years of marriage. The couple made their home in Wichita, Kansas. Stan became a brick mason and worked for the Born Brothers Stone Company for many years. Stan later owned and operated his own Masonry Company Stan Hendrix Sons Construction. In 1977 the family moved to Neodesha. Stan worked on several landmarks in Neodesha, Kansas and during hard times Stan worked as a cook at Carries Caf. Where he became very well know for his cinnamon rolls. Stan had two heart attacks in 2005 so he retired to spend more time with his family and friends. Stan had five sons Tim in Kansas City, Missouri, Phil who preceded him in death, Jamie of Neodesha, Kansas, Dwaine of Columbus, Kansas and Joel of Minimine, Missouri, and one daughter Dawn Hendrix of Wichita, Kansas other survivors include 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren siblings Gordon Hendrix of Nevada, Missouri, Carl Ray Hendrix of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Martha Jane and Mary Ellen both of Nevada, Missouri, Rosalee of Kansas City, Missouri and Don Allen Hendrix of Nevada, Missouri, Bonnie Powell of St. Peters, Missouri and Jack Hendrix Nevada, Missouri. Stan was a very caring person he always left his door unlocked so nearly every morning there would be someone sleeping on the couch. While in Wichita Stan worked for Urban renewal he was a member of the VFW and the Country Side Christian Church. Stan wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped with the outstanding care he received while ill, especially Stephanie Rieling, Harry Hynes Hospice and Dr. Brad Barrett.
