Shirley May Brasko, age 77, of Independence, Kansas died Tuesday, April 06, 2010 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Steve Butler of the Community Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 8, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Community Christian Church Building Fund and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Shirley was born January 11, 1933 in Bolton, Kansas to John Newton and Ethel U. Taylor Holloway. She grew up in the Independence area and graduated from the Independence High School in 1950. Shirley also attended Independence Community College. In 1956 Shirley married Joseph R. Brasko in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1992. Shirley worked at the Southwest Detroit Hospital in Detroit, Michigan for 15 years, she also worked at Michigan Healthcare Corporation in the Financial Department for 5 years. Retiring in 1995 Shirley moved back to Independence, Kansas. After retirement Shirley worked at Best Western in Independence, Kansas. She was a member of the Girl Scouts for 20 years, Gibralter Health Council, Green Thumb Garden Club in Independence, Kansas and the Community Christian Church. Survivors include two sons David Dean Brasko of Langley, Washington and Robert Newton Brasko of Wisconsin two daughters Karen Sue Brasko of Independence, Kansas and Joetta Ann Shaver of Decatur, Illinois one brother Bill Johnson of Independence, Kansas seven grandchildren Caroline Brasko, Allison Pavlick, Jamie Shaver, Casandra Brasko, Justin Shaver, Jeffery Brasko, and Nikia Brasko one great grandchild Gracie Mae Pavlick. She was preceded in death by one brother Elbert Newton Holloway two sisters Barbara Jean Goodman and Mary Ann Simmons.
