Sharon Kay Winkleman, age 66, of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the First Christian Church with the Reverend Terry Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 with the family receiving from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel.

The family has suggested memorials to the Open Arms Diner in care of the First Christian Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Sharon Kay Winkleman was born June 9, 1947 in Independence, Kansas to John and Marie Fredman Stover. She grew up on the family farm in rural Independence, Kansas. Sharon graduated from the Independence High School in 1965. She attended Independence Community College. Sharon worked at the telephone company.

In her first marriage Sharon had two children Cindy and Mike. On January 12, 1979 Sharon married Robert Bob Lee Winkleman in Miami, Oklahoma and they made their home in Independence, Kansas. While married to Robert Sharon adopted four children Terry, Sherry, Perry and Kerry. Robert Bob Winkleman preceded her in death on May 30, 2008. Sharon worked at ACC for a short time before going to work for Mercy Hospital in the business office for 35 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Open Arms Diner, Relay for Life, and she volunteered for several various community activities. She loved gardening, square dancing and traveling.

Survivors include two sons Terry and wife Janie Winkleman of Independence, Kansas and Perry and wife Mary Winkleman of Owasso, Oklahoma two daughters Kerry and husband Jerry Himmelberg of Kansas City, Missouri and Cindy and husband Tim White of Independence, Kansas one brother Gary and wife Sandee Stover of Olathe, Kansas seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter Sherry Mitchell and one son Michael Mike Winkleman, one brother Ralph Stover, two sisters Naomi Grace Stover and Ethel Seeley and her parents.
