Sharon Joyce Hinkle Moreland, 81 of Caney, Kansas, passed away at 12:30 p.m. January 19, 2011, in her home. She was surrounded by her husband of 62 years and her six children. Celebration of Life services are scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Potts Chapel in Caney, with Reverend Brad Sanders of First Christian Church, Caney officiating, with interment following at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney. Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 2011 from Noon to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, with family visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family has suggested memroials to the American Diabetes Association and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Joyce Hinkle was born June 9, 1929, in Augusta, Kansas, to Calvin and Catherine Scott Hinkle. As her father worked for Prairie pipeline later Sinclair Oil Company, she went to various schools in Kansas and Oklahoma. Her family moved to Caney in 1943 and she graduated from Caney High School in 1947. She took nurses training at Halsted, Kansas, and received her nurses cap. On April 29, 1948, she married L. B. Moreland, Jr., at Pawnee, Oklahoma. In 1953 they moved to Caney and she continued her nursing skills while raising her family of six children. They lived at the house at 111 East First Street, Caney for 40 years before moving to 205 N. Vine. Joyce and Jr. watched all their children and numerous grandchildren graduate from Caney High School. Joyce was active in the PTA, the Progressive Mother Club, the Brownie and Cub Scout troops, and the Caney Bullpup Boosters. She made dozens of cookies, pies, and cakes for baked food sales for all school events. At mealtimes, Joyce never knew how many people she would be cooking for, but she could always stretch a meal so everyone had enough to eat and were always made to feel welcome. Joyce also babysat for many children in Caney. Her pride in her nurses training inspired all three of her daughters to become registered nurses and one son to become an EMT. She also worked hard to keep all her sons football jerseys the whitest on the team. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jr. Moreland of Caney, as well as her mother, Catherine Graham, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, who just turned 100 in September, 2010, and one sister Mari Lea Zimmerman, Ponca City. Also surviving are three daughters, Landa and Steve Hughes of Catoosa, Oklahoma, Lori and Daryl Minnabarriet of Dewey, Oklahoma, Lisa and Brad Mantooth of Caney three sons, David and Mary Moreland of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Dan and Rosella Moreland of rural Caney, and Mike Moreland of Caney 16 grandchildren Steve, Vicki, Jennifer, Charles, Brant, Blake, Haley, Tyler, Amber, Nic, Gail, Katie, Bradley, Sarah, Chelsy, and Shelby 15 great grandchildren Tyler, Michael, Elizabeth, Jacob, Caden, Dillon, Caleb, Tori, Alli, JR, Alex, Ethan, Onna, Keith and Farrah.
