Samir Salem

Samir "SAM" Salem, 78, of Independence, Kansas passed away Sunday March 29, 2015 at his home with his family by his side.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Potts Chapel, Independence and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a. m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at the Nazarene Church in Independence with the Reverend Paul Harris-Webester of the Community Covenant Church of Lenexa, Kansas officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Eldon, Missouri.
The family will be receiving friends at the Nazarene Church from 9:00 a. m., until service time at the Nazarene Church.
The family has suggested memorials to the Mercy Hospital Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
Sam was born March 5, 1937 in Port Fouad, Egypt the son of Ahmed and Zanab Salem. He grew up in Port Fouad, Egypt. Sam attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri and Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. Sam received his Masters Degree.
In 1972 at the Lake of the Ozark, Missouri Sam was united in marriage to Linda Ahart and the couple made their home in Jefferson City, Missouri for eight years then moved to Independence. Linda survives at the home.
Sam owned and operated the Sam's Men Wear clothing store in Independence and later also worked for Standard Motors from which he retired.
Sam enjoyed working with the Relay for Life Group and had belonged at one time to several Civic Organizations in Independence. He also served on the Independence Community College Board. Sam's life was built around helping anyone that he could.
Survivors include his wife Linda of the home one daughter Leah James and husband Mark of Dodge City, Ks., one son Darik Salem and wife Amy of Lenexa, Ks., and four grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
