Ruth Townson

Ruth J. Townson, 87, of Independence, Kansas passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Independence. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Potts Chapel of Independence with Graveside services held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. Ruth Jean Townson was born January 13, 1924 at St. Louis, Missouri the daughter of A.R. Langford and Esther Mahan Langford. She was united in marriage to George Townson in 1941 at Coffeyville, Kansas and he preceded her in death in 1991. She was raised in Coffeyville and was nanny for several families in the area. She was a member of the Tyro Christian Church, Southeast Kansas Authors, helped at AWOL, and CASA advocate. She lived in Independence since 1978. She was also a writer of essays and short stories. Survivors include two sons, Patrick Townson of Independence, KS, Daniel Townson of Chicago, Illinois, sister, Lois Bryant of Munster, Illinois, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
