Ruth A. Jabben, age 88, of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Richard Peckman officiating. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Ruth was born November 4, 1921 in rural Coffeyville, Kansas to Orren and Irma Leslie Ellison. She graduated from Coffeyville High School and also graduated from Pittsburg State University with an education degree. Ruth was a teacher until she and Werner Jabben were married on May 30, 1946 in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2002. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and past member of the West Brown Homemakers. Survivors include two sons Jon Jabben of Tyro, Kansas and Joe Jabben of Dearing, Kansas one daughter Susan Rea of Coffeyville, Kansas three brothers Kenneth Ellison of Coffeyville, Kansas, Dale Ellison of Overland Park, Kansas and Keith Ellison of Tyro, Kansas two sisters Annabell Westerhaus of Pratt, Kansas and Reba Miller of Lakeland, Florida 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
