Ruth Blome

Ruth Elizabeth Blome, age 91, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Cherryvale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas with the Pastor Darren Melton of the First Church of the Nazarene in Independence, Kansas officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2015 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene in Independence, Kansas and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Ruth was born September 26, 1923 in Welda, Kansas to George August and Retta Zoola (Collins) Biggs. She grew up in Wayside, Kansas and graduated from the Wayside High School. Ruth attended Independence Community College and Pittsburg State Univeristy.

On December 23, 1959 Ruth married John E. Blome at the First Church of the Nazarene in Independence, Kansas. The couple made their home in Independence before later moving to Cherryvale, Kansas. John preceded her in death on November 25, 2005. Ruth was the City Clerk of Cherryvale, Kansas for over 20 years retiring in 1988. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Independence, Kansas.

Survivors include three children; daughter Sandra Reddin and husband Tim of Leawood, Kansas; Son Don Blome and wife Janay of Garnett, Kansas; Son John Blome II and wife Lynn of Cherryvale, Kansas; Six Grandchildren, Two step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister Mary L. Brown.
