Independence

Russell Leon Baldwin, 70, of Independence went to rest in the arms of his Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2019 at Via Christi in Wichita, KS.

He was born December 16, 1948 in Neodesha, KS to Donald R and Neoma “Pat” Hash Baldwin. He attended Neodesha schools and graduated in 1967. He attended ICC and then went on to join the U.S. Army, serving his country in the Vietnam war for which he received a bronze star and a purple heart.

Upon returning stateside, Russell was employed by MEC, Guaranty Performance Company, D&C Welding, and retired from the United States Postal Service in 2012.

On August 11, 1968 he married Janice Elaine Borror, she survives at their home. Russell is also survived by son, Russell II (Denise) Baldwin of Independence, daughter, Elaine(Steen) Aiken of Jay, OK, grandsons Jonathan, Tucker, and Jerry, granddaughters Riley and Destiny, as well as his siblings, Lynda (Mike) Stark, Dawson Creek, BC, Canada, Ron (Margie) Baldwin, Saucier, MS, and David (Bonnie) Baldwin, Neodesha, and much extended family, blood and otherwise. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Russell lived his life to the fullest and was an active member of the International Coleman Collectors Club, and the Mister Shifters Car Club. He loved to travel, scuba dive, brew his own beer, fish, and spend time with his family. He especially enjoyed the 1928 Roadster he built. Many memories were made tearing up the road, sharing the fun with friends and family.

Visitation will be at Potts Chapel, 122 S. Penn Ave. Independence, KS on Friday, December 27th from 5-7 pm. Memorial service will be at 1 pm Saturday, December 28th at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3167 S. 10th in Independence. Inurnment will then immediately follow at Neodesha Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Mister Shifters Scholarship fund. To leave the family a special message of condolence, please visit www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
