Roy Earl Thompson, 73, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by his family and loved ones on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. At the request of the family cremation has been entrusted to Potts Chapel. A celebration of Roy's life will be held at the Assembly of God Church, in Cherryvale, Kansas on Saturday, March 24th at 4:30 pm.
Roy Earl Thompson was born on August 16, 1944 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Harry Edgar and Mary Emma (Clark) Thompson. Roy grew up on the family farms in southeast Kansas. Roy attended the Liberty, Kansas school system. Roy married Mary Alice Chastian on August 18, 1967 in Coffeyville, Kansas. The two made their home in Coffeyville. Roy worked for John Deere for 37 years before retiring in 2002. Throughout the years, Roy enjoyed his free time by fishing, camping, bowling, playing dominoes and collecting John Wayne memorabilia. But most of all, Roy enjoyed the time he got to spend with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Roy's memory include; wife, Mary Thompson of Cherryvale, son, Patrick Thompson of Elk City, daughters, Anna Holt of Coffeyville, Shirley Reynolds of Independence, brothers, Jack Thompson of Altamont, Harold Thompson of Oklahoma, sister, Ada Dunn of Georgia, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary (Clark) Thompson, daughter, Racheal Thompson, grandchildren, Pat Thompson, Hanna Thompson and great grandchildren, Haven Lee Bridges, and Gracie Jo Williams. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested a memorial in Roy's name be made to the St. Jude's Cancer Center. Contributions may be left at Potts Chapel in Independence or with the family.
