NEWS MEDIA NOTIFICATIONCHERRYVALE ROY L. HAMMOND Roy L. Hammond, 76, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Cherryvale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Celebration of Life Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 at the New Life Praise and Worship Church in Cherryvale with David Cavaness, officiating. Friends may register from 12Noon until 8 p.m. at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Roy Leon Hammond was born March 3, 1935 at Simpson, Kansas the son of Roy Hammond and Eva Jones Hammond. He attended school in Fort Scott and Wichita, Kansas. On February 3, 1958 at Pocatello, Idaho he was united in marriage to Janice Hammonds and they later divorced. Roy owned and operated Reliance Disposal in Cherryvale until his retirement in 2001. After retiring he worked in WalMart in Independence. He was a member of the Cherryvale Model Railroad Club and Glory Barn Church in Parsons, Kansas. Survivors include one son, David Hammond of Cherryvale, Kansas, one daughter, Christy Jones of Independence, Kansas, two sisters, Jean Stark of McPherson, Kansas, Loretta Dixon of Dennis,Kansas and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter and soninlaw, Cindy Jeff Blake.
