Throughout his life, Roger was a dedicated Research Microbiologist, channeling his expertise into the development of vaccines for veterinary medicine. His professional journey was marked by a commitment to advancing medical science and improving animal health.
Outside of his impressive career, Roger was a man of many passions and interests. He embraced hobbies such as leather tooling, art collecting, and had an enduring fascination with conspiracy theories. An ardent lover of music, he spent cherished moments playing guitar and piano, often bringing joy to family gatherings and campfire nights with his melodic tunes. Roger also enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting, activities that fostered deep connections with nature and provided endless opportunities for making memories with loved ones.
The bonds Roger formed with his family were particularly significant. He shared a close relationship with his daughters, Christi Bruns, Mindy Freeman, and Sara Perez, along with their families, which included grandchildren Grady and Hannah Bruns, Gabriel and Hazel Perez, and Artemis Freeman. These familial connections were integral to his life, creating countless treasured memories, from holiday celebrations to surprise visits.
Roger's personality shone brightly through his compassionate and intelligent nature. His love for life and those around him left a mark that will not be forgotten. He often expressed his values with passion, enriching conversations with thoughtful insights and loving discernment.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer "Bill" Ruehling and Gertrude (Jabben) Ruehling, who instilled in him the values that shaped a remarkable individual.
Visitation will be held on August 29, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Potts Chapel, located at 122 S Pennsylvania Ave, Independence, KS 67301. The graveside service will commence at 2:00 PM at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1300 N Pennsylvania Avenue, Independence, KS 67301.
Roger Henry Ruehling will be remembered not only for his professional contributions but for the warmth and love he bestowed upon his family and friends, leaving an indelible legacy of kindness, intellect, and creativity.
