Roger was born November 1st, 1954 to Dean and Margarette (House)Powell. He graduated from Field Kindley High School as well as ICC with a degree in Information Technology.
He married the love of his life, Sandra Stevens on April 13th, 1974. They lived in Coffeyville, Kansas for a short time before making their home in Independence, Kansas.
He began his career as a reserve police officer and rural fireman before becoming a full time police officer. Roger worked with the Independence Police Department until his retirement after 30 years of service. He worked with local schools as a D.A.R.E officer helping kids learn the dangers of drugs. He loved spending time with his family and being outdoors. He was an avid camper and water enthusiast. He coached sports for several years and loved working with kids. He loved watching his kids and grandkids playing sports and watching them grow.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dean and Margaret Powell, sister Linda Sjolander, mother and father-in-law Om Jr and Annabelle Stevens and nephew Billy McGill.
His Loving memory will live on with his wife Sandy Powell of Independence, brother Duane and wife Brenda Powell of Coffeyville, his son David and wife Shawna Powell of Independence, daughters: Melissa Malotte of Independence and Tisha and husband Darrin Wood of Independence, grandchildren: Andrew Knight, Derek Malotte, Tyler Malotte, Ryan Powell, Bentley Powell, Laney Wood, Logan Wood, great-grandchildren: Raven, Faith, Lyra all of Independence, brother-in-law Jack and Wife Angie Stevens of Texas, sister-in-Law Debra and husband Tom Wilson of Kansas, sister-in-law Robin and Husband Roy McKey of Texas, aunts, uncles, numerous nieces and nephews.
