Robert Schabel

Robert Bob M. Schabel 92, of Independence, Kansas passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at his home. Rosary will be recited Friday, July 1, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Potts Chapel of Independence. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011 at St Andrew Catholic Church with Reverend Andrew Heiman, celebrant. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Friends may register from 12noon until 6 p.m. Friday at Potts Chapel of Independence. Memorial remembrances are suggested to Legacy of Faith at St. Andrew Catholic Church or St. Andrew Catholic School. Robert Murray Schabel was born November 8, 1918 at Neodesha, Kansas the son of Carl Anthony Charley Schabel and Theresa Bodkin Schabel. He grew up on a Dairy in Neodesha and attended Neodesha Schools. On May 10, 1939 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Independence, Kansas he was united in marriage to Wanda Sullivan and she survives at the home. Robert worked for Jones Heslop Grocery Store. He worked for Cities Gas Company for 38 years retiring in 1979. He also owned and operated Schabels Car Washes, worked at Schabels TV and helped his son Bill on the farm. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers and St Andrew Catholic Church. Survivors include wife Wanda of the home, five sons, Bill Schabel of Independence, KS, Tom Schabel of Tyro, KS, Charles Schabel of Charlotte, NC, Joe Schabel of Lake Dallas, TX, Tony Schabel of Independence, KS, one daughter, Joyce Bucchi of Greensburg, PA, two sisters, Rita Misch of Independence, KS, Eileen Meadors of Midwest City, OK, 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter Judith Judy Beaver and one grandchild, one brother and two sisters.
