Robert Dunham

April 10, 1963 — December 11, 2022

On December 11th at 11:00 p.m., Robert won the final battle and went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.   Robert Bruce Dunham born April 10, 1963 in Independence KS to George Bruce Dunham and Leah Virginia (Payne) Dunham. He grew up in the Elk City area with his brothers, Garryl, Glynn, and Monte along with his sister Patty.  He had a paper route in Elk City and loved to hunt, fish and play ball with his neighborhood friends.  He attended elementary school in Elk City, then went to Junior High and High School in Independence.  He was a member of the Mighty Bulldogs football team from 1979 to 1980 and named player of the year 1980 Most Valuable Defensive Player. He graduated from Independence High School in 1981. His reputation as a defensive lineman earned him the respect of all the players, as well as a scholarship to play football for the ICC Pirates.  He worked at Reed and Widick Feed and Grain Elevator, Emerson Electric, and MEC Manufacturing.  Robert was quite the entrepreneur and eventually bought Jayhawk Dry Cleaners. He operated it until a knee injury prevented him from doing so.

On November 3, 1984 he married the love of his life, Christina L Bever. They have three wonderful children Ashley, Amberlea, and Lee.  He was papa to three amazing grandchildren, Ember, Aurora and baby Charlie.  He was a wonderful uncle to several nieces and nephews.  Family meant everything to Robert.  He never knew a stranger and was quick to help his fellow man, even when restricted to a wheel chair.

Robert is preceded in death by his father, George Bruce Dunham, two brothers, Bruce Lane and Garryl David Dunham, and one sister, Mary Jean.  He is survived by his wife, Christy, and children Ashley (and Charles) Taylor of Wichita KS, Amberlea Dunham of Blackwell OK, and Lee Dunham of Independence; three grandchildren Ember, Aurora and Charles Taylor all of Wichita KS; his mother, Virgina Dunham of Independence, his brothers Glynn (and Tamera) Dunham of Independence KS, Monte (and Lisa) Dunham of Neodesha, and sister Patty Vannoster or Independence.

Services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Potts Chapel in Independence. The family will greet friends at visitation at Potts Chapel on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Sycamore Community Church, Sycamore KS.
