Robert Bob Lee Ayres, age 78, of Caney, Kansas died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at his daughters home in Caney, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Caney, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas and family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The family has suggested memorials to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church Steeple Project and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Robert Bob L. Ayres was born May 29, 1933 in Springfield, Missouri. Adopted son of Fred and Willie Holeman Ayres. Bob grew up in Springfield, Missouri and graduated from the Springfield High School. Bob then attended and graduated from Missouri State with a Chemical Engineering Degree. On October 13, 1954 Bob entered the United States Navy and served during the Korean War as a Fleet Shore Distribution Officer on the USS Kermit Roosevelt until his honorable discharge on December 10, 1957. On January 17, 1953 Bob married Barbara Ann Fox in Arkansas. The couple made their home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Dewey, Oklahoma before moving to Caney, Kansas. Barbara preceded him in death in 1974. Bob worked at Phillips Petroleum for over 30 years in the Plastic Technical Center retiring in 1988. Bob was on the International Specifications Board of Plastic Pipe, he was a member of the Hydrostatic Stress Board Plastic Pipe Institute and was a board member, he was a member of the TAC The Association of Churches board and coordinated the FCA breakfast on Fridays for all churches at Caney Valley High School, he was on the Home Mission Committee an Elder at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and a member of NRA and Precinct Committeeman for the Republican Party in Montgomery County. Survivors include one daughter Katherine Ayres Abbott of Caney, Kansas three grandchildren Katrina and husband Brady Gulick of Caney, Kansas, Courtney Abbott and fiance Megan Marek of Oxford, Kansas, Kyle Abbott of Copan, Oklahoma two great grandchildren Brycen and Kamrey Gulick both of Caney, Kansas.
