It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rick A. Knapp, 67, of Independence, Kansas, who left us on April 21, 2026. Rick was born on September 23, 1958, in Independence, where he also spent the majority of his life, nurturing lifelong connections within his community.

Rick was a proud graduate of Independence High School, completing his education in 1976. He furthered his academic journey at Independence Community College and later at Pittsburg State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1981. Throughout his career, Rick was dedicated to the education and development of young minds, serving as an assistant coach at Independence Community College and contributing to the local basketball program. His passion for the sport extended beyond the court, as he was an avid supporter of the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team.

In addition to his work in education, Rick held various positions in the community, including a valued role at Walmart, and was known for his unwavering commitment to the people around him. He cherished the bonds formed with his classmates and was diligently working on the 50th reunion of his high school class, demonstrating his dedication to preserving those relationships.

Rick married his beloved wife, Lynn Alexander, on August 31, 2002, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Together, they welcomed two sons, Jake and Samuel, who were the pride and joy of his life. Rick's legacy of love and devotion will continue through them.

An antiquing enthusiast, Rick found joy in exploring. His spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held to honor Rick's life on April 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. We invite friends, family, and all who loved Rick to gather together in remembrance of his remarkable life and the lasting impact he had on his community.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rick's memory to his children's education fund.

Rick is remembered by his wife, Lynn Alexander and their two children, Samuel and Jake Knapp. 

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Charles Knapp and Marlene Corn.
