Just as they lived their lives together for 72 years, Richard and Charlotte Winebrenner left this world on October 6, 2020.
Richard Lee was born on December 11, 1927 in rural Independence, Kansas to Lewis and NellaMae (Musgrove) Winebrenner and Charlotte Pauline was born on May 25, 1930 to Martin and Glena (Ashley) Lesslie. Both Charlotte and Richard graduated from Independence High School and then on June 5, 1948 they got married in Bolton, Kansas. The two made their home in Independence and welcomed two children, Brian and Brenda. Richard entered the United States Navy in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1947. He then began working at Starcraft until they shutdown, he then went to work at Hackney until he retired after 20 plus years of employment. Charlotte worked in the food service for Independence Community College and USD 446 for 20 plus years before retiring. Richard loved to fish and spend time outdoors but most of all he loved the Kansas City Chiefs. He never missed a game, still rooting for them in their down years. Charlotte loved to cook and bake, crochet and sew. Making several outfits for the grandchildren through the years. Charlotte was an active member for many years and the First Church of the Nazarene. Above all, Richard and Charlotte have always put God and family first, they will be truly missed and remembered as loving, parents, grandparents, and friends.
They are proceeded in death by their parents, Richard’s brother, Edward Winebrenner, Charlotte’s brothers, Wilbur and Larry Lesslie, and Charlotte’s sister, Doris Wilson.
Richard and Charlotte’s memory will carry on with their children, Brian (Nancy) Winebrenner and Brenda (Richard) Wallace all of Independence, Charlotte’s brother, Michael (Sharon) Lesslie of Havanna, KS, Richard’s sister, Nora Mae Miller of Andover, KS and Charlotte’s sister, Linda Deyoe of Perry, OK, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence on Thursday October 8th, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 9th at 2:00 pm at Potts Chapel. Richard and Charlotte will then be laid to rest together at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family has asked that a memorial contribution be made in Richard and Charlotte’s names to the Alzheimer Association.
