Richard Vaughan

Richard Vaughan, 80, of Caney, Kansas, passed away at his home Saturday, February 28, 2015.

Richard Howard Vaughan was born November 10, 1934, third of four children born to E. Howard Vaughan and Ermyl
B. (Scholl) Vaughan in rural Coffeyville. He attended his early school years in Wann, Oklahoma, and high school in Caney, KS.

He was employed with Continental Can in Coffeyville, Matchplate in Caney, Durrell Elevator in Caney, and finally retired from the Phillips Petroleum, Bartlesville, OK, in 1996 after 26 years.

Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting, gardening, wood working, and was an avid reader. He preferred to maintain low profile and just being with his family. However in this last two years he did get to mark off a couple of items from his 'bucket list': a KC Chiefs football game in 2013 and a KC Royals baseball game in 2014.

Blessed by his memory are his surviving loved ones: wife, Deloris of the home, 3 sons - Rick, Randy, and Gene, 3 daughters - Ann, Dana, and Michelle, 15 grandchildren, 14.5 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and 2 pet dogs - Bitsy and Gidget also of the home. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Vaughan, granddaughter Mandy Vaughan, and his 15-year companion dog - Benimin.

Visitation service is schedule for Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at the Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney. The family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00pm to greet friends.

Graveside celebration of life service is scheduled for 2:00pm, Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Harrisonville Cemetery, north of Tyro, under the direction of Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney.

Friends and family are invited sign the memorial book at the Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney from 8:00am to 5:00pm daily. Online condolences may be shared at www.pottsfuneralhome.com. Memorials are suggested to the organization of the donors choice, designated in memory of Richard Vaughan. Memorials can be left with the Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney.
