 Richard “Dick” Otto Hoffmeister was born May 29,1932 and went to be with the Lord January 1, 2024. Services are entrusted with Potts Chapel. A memorial service will be held January 20, 2024 at the Cherryvale Church of Christ at 10:30 am.

 

Dick grew up helping his parents on a dairy farm in rural Topeka, Kansas hunting, trapping, and spending most of his life in that area. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School playing shortstop on the men’s baseball team that became the first State Champions of any sport at Washburn Rural. After graduating, he enlisted in the Marines and served stateside as a GCA controller during the Korean Conflict and used the GI Bill to enroll at Washburn University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in business. He worked until retirement as a Directory Representative for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

 Dick was a long-time member of the Central Church of Christ in Topeka and considered his best years to be after retirement. He was able to travel and enjoyed wintering in Port Aransas, Texas for many years. He enjoyed playing golf, spending time with friends and family, but the highlight of his life was playing and being involved with his 7 grandsons.

Dick is survived by his wife of 68 years Lorene (McClelland) Hoffmeister, son Rick Hoffmeister and Trish of Topeka Kansas, son Marc Hoffmeister and wife Margaret of Independence, Kansas, daughter-in-law Hannah Hoffmeister of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, 7 grandsons Matt, Cole, Kurtis, Lane, Jordan, Heath, Kevin, and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Ruth (Moore) Hoffmeister, sister Marcelle Johnston, and son James Hoffmeister.
