Rev. Ronald Edward Moore, Sr., age 75, of East Helena, MT, passed away at 10:28 pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, Long Island, NY.
Ron was born April 13, 1938 in Tryon, OK, to Rev. C. L. and Ruth Lovina Hunt Moore. After a few years in OK, the family moved to Wichita, KS where he grew up and attended High School.
He married Sharon Kay Holt, daughter of William Floyd and Rev. Annalina Holt, in 1960 at Rays of Faith Tabernacle in Independence, KS the day after she graduated from Independence High School. They later lived and raised a family in various places in KS, including Greensburg, Kiowa, Garden City, Coffeeville, Chanute, Humboldt, Wichita, Palmer, Clay Center, Leonardville as well as in Kalispel, MT and Lander, WY.
Ron was a talented mechanic and drove local truck routes for Coke, Pepsi, Wonder Bread and others, as well as cross country. He enjoyed reading science fiction and westerns, nature, exploring ghost towns in the Rocky Mountains and church life and family.
Ron was from a long line of ministers and loved God and people. He was ordained as an independent minister in 1985 by Rev. Orville E. Steiger at Love of God tabernacle in Oklahoma City, OK, while pastoring for two years in Clay Center, KS. Following in the footsteps of his great grandfather, Rev. Charles Sumner Hunt a missionary to the Otoe Indians in Oklahoma Ron pursued a lifelong interest and went to work with the Native American Indians on the ShoshoneArapahoe Wind River Indian Reservation in Wy in 1995. They served there for 7 years and also ministered on other reservations in CA, NV, MT and Canada before returning to Independence in 2002 to care for Sharons mother, a longtime resident of Independence and a local centenarian in 2006.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon K. Moore of East Helena, MT. Two sons, Rev. Ronald E. and Lorraine Moore, Jr. of Coram, Long Island, NY, Samuel B. and Julie Moore of Helena, MT and two daughters, Tonya R Miller, of East Helena, MT, and Aaron F. and Anna Gaylene Nelson, of East Helena, MT. One brother, Thom B. Blu and Valerie Moore, of Lake Tapps, WA and one sister, Eunice K. DeWitt, of Auburn, WA.
Fourteen grandchildren, Mathew B. Moore, Meagan R. Moore and Micah J. Moore, John Briann N. Golliver of Shiloh R. Miller, Nathan Bluett Nelson, David Lee Nelson, Jacob James, Tamara J. Moore, Joshua S. Moore, Jennifer D. Moore, Nicholas H. Loomer, Kathryn A. Loomer and Alexander J. Loomer: One greatgranddaughter, Aralynn Faith Marlowe
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. C. L. and Ruth L. Moore and three infant daughters, Rhonda Kay, and twins, Gwenda Ray and Wenda Gay.
Funeral services for Rev. Ronald E. Moore, Sr. will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Independence Church of God, with Rev. Willard R. Olinger of Greensburg, KS, the first pastor for Ron and Sharon after they were married, officiating. A Ceremony of Life Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 27, 2013 at Mountain Family Fellowship in Helena, MT, with Pastor George Wells of Wind River Big Gospel Fellowship on the ShoshoneArapahoe Wind River Indian Reservation officiating.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, KS under the direction of the Potts Funeral Chapel in Independence. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions and memorials be sent in honor of Ron to Mountain Family Fellowship, 6145 N. Montana Ave., Helena, MT, to defray the burial costs and support their mother.
