June 17, 1927 — May 21, 2015

Raymond LaVon Hodges, 87, passed away, Thursday, May 21, 2015, at St John's Hospital, Tulsa.

Raymond LaVon Hodges was born June 17, 1927, at Tyro, Kansas, the first of three children born to Raymond Stanley Hodges and Lucille (Dearmond) Hodges. He attended school in Tyro.

He was employed over the years as a custodian and bus driver for the Tyro Schools and then the Caney Schools. From there he worked as a machinist for Wheatley Valve Company, and then for Judd Valve Company, both of Caney. As a sideline to his employment, he would periodically raise pigs or cattle to supplement the family income.

In 1948, he married Norma Jean Nunneley of rural Tyro. They made their home at Tyro raising their only daughter, Debra. He was baptized and became a member of the Tyro Christian Church.

Survivors blessed by his memory are his daughter, Debra and husband Kenneth Prather of rural Wann, OK, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a sister, Vonda Torres in California, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Norma in 1998, his parents, and a sister Linda Hodges.

Graveside celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney, KS, under the direction of Potts Chapel Funeral Home, Caney with Evangelist David Bycroft, Tyro Christian Church, officiating. Raymond loved his pets and would appreciate if memorial donations were given to the SPCA.
